Al Moudira

Al Moudira was designed with traditionally styled architecture incorporating actual pieces saved from old Egyptian buildings. Designed by Egyptian architects and constructed using local material, Al Moudira took almost two-and-a-half years to build. It has a panoramic backdrop of mountains and the Valley of the Queens, bordered by the desert on one side and agricultural land on the other. There are 54 rooms in the hotel which are grouped into units of four or more which open onto a private courtyard with lush greenery, a fountain and a comfortable shaded sitting area. Each room carries a different Arab theme or period, including Pharaonic designs. Columns and archways add to the Oriental feel. Frescoes depicting Arabic artwork and styles decorate the walls. All of the rooms have satellite TV and air-conditioning.

Located in Balakha Village, 20 minutes from Paro Airport, Amankora Paro offers 24 luxurious suites featuring natural rammed-earth walls, gently sloping roofs and wood-panelled interiors with a king-size bed and a traditional bukhari wood-burning stove. The suites feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows opening onto a meadow of blue pines with the Drukgyel Dzong (monastery) and the snow peak of Jhomolhari providing a beautiful backdrop. The dining room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and specialises in Indian, Western and Bhutanese dishes. The suites feature natural rammed-earth walls, gently sloping roofs and wood-paneled interiors with a king-size bed, a traditional bukhari wood-burning stove and a large terrazzo-clad bath. The views take in Drukyel Dzong and stretch to 7,300m high, snow-capped Jhomolhari and beyond. 

 

Amankora Punakha 

Wangdue, India 

Amankora Punakha is surrounded by orchards of tropical fruit and paddy fields. Flanked by the Mo Chu river, access, via a suspension bridge decked with fluttering prayer flags, is a short drive through rural pastures. There are eight suites with views of the valley and the Punakha Dzong (monastery) in the distance. Days spent here are relaxed and indulgent - following a hiking trail, relaxing in the spa with sauna, steam, massage and meditation or gently floating down the river.  

 

Amankora Punakha

Located east of the Dochu Pass the Amankora Punakha is reached by crossing a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu (Mother River). The lodge includes a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse built as a residence by Her Majesty the Queen Mother, which now houses the dining room and intimate relaxation areas. There is a courtyard for outdoor dining, a tea pavilion and meditation room, with views on the surrounding rice terraces. The eight suites are identical in design to the Amankora Paro. 

 

Amankora Thimphu 

, Bhutan 

The Amankora Thimphu is set in a blue pine forest in the upper reaches of the Motithang area of the adjacent Thimphu Valley. The 16 suite property is close to the capital's sights whilst remaining a quiet retreat. The dzong like architecture incorporates high stone white-washed buildings, with dramatic soaring ceilings and wood-panelled walls. The Spa features three treatment rooms and the suites feature wood panel walls, a king-size bed, reading chair, a spacious bathroom with a terrazzo-clad bath with a view of the pine forest. 

 

Amankora Thimpu 

Thimpu, India 

Amankora Thimphu is a quiet retreat. The dzong-like architecture incorporates stone, white washed buildings and traditional wood burning “bukhari” stoves. A flagstone outdoor dining deck offers views of blue pine forests 

 

Amanwella 

, Sri Lanka 

Amidst a mature coconut grove fronting a crescent shaped beach near the village of Tangalle, on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, Amanwella is a resort with 30 contemporary suites, each with private pool and terrace. The suites open on both sides letting in cooling sea breezes and sliding screens divide the bathroom from the sleeping area. The resort features a unique, rectangular 45-metre infinity swimming pool. The Restaurant has stunning views across the pool towards the coconut grove and beach. Adjacent to the Restaurant is the Lounge and Bar which also enjoys panoramic views. The Terrace adjacent to the swimming pool is ideal for alfresco dining. The Beach Club provides an alternative venue for lunch and private dinners. The Amar Mahal Resort in Orchha is a new hotel built in traditional palace style and offers panoramic views of the famous monuments amidst the surrounding hills and forests. The 22 rooms including 3 suites are all on ground floor level and open onto the beautiful landscaped courtyard. All rooms are furnished in a traditional heritage style and all have private bathrooms with hairdryers available from reception on request. The restaurant, with its impressive hand painted ceiling offers Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisine.  

 

Amazon Ecopark

The Amazon Ecopark Lodge is located at the Tarumã river bank - a tributary of the Rio Negro - in the Amazon Jungle and only 30 minutes by boat from Manaus. It is a jungle lodge with 20 rustic bungalows in a preserved forest area with typical regional arquitectural design, with screened windows. Each bungalow has 3 suites (total of 60 suites) with hot shower, fan and air conditioning. It is possible to enjoy nature without giving away your comfort.

Puraquequara Lake, Brazil 

Located approximately 19 miles from the city of Manaus on the banks of the Puraquequara Lake, the Amazon Village offers simple, rustic accommodation in the rainforest. Transfer from Manaus to the lodge is by boat. The rooms have private facilities and mosquito screens; lighting is by lantern (there is no electricity). The dining room offers simple local dishes. Hot water is not available. Due to the canoe transfer, your main luggage will be left in store at Manaus and only the necessities for three days should be taken in an overnight bag (maximum weight 5kg per person).  

 

Amboseli Serena Lodge

In the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro surrounded by Acacia trees and a natural spring, lies Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge. Around the lodge roams the big game that has made East Africa legendary. The ANA Hotel in Kanazawa is a modern hotel conveniently located adjacent to the JR railway station. The 254 rooms are pleasantly decorated with all the standard facilities including hair dryer and tea and coffee making facilities. There are Japanese and Chinese restaurants as well as a bar and pleasant coffee shop in the lobby. 

 

ANA Hotel Hiroshima  

Hiroshima, Japan 

The ANA Hotel Hiroshima is a modern centrally located hotel providing convenient access to all of the city’s attractions. There are 409 recently renovated rooms with modern amenities including coffee maker and hair dryer. There is an indoor swimming pool, sauna and health club (charges may be applicable for all). There is a choice of four restaurants and a cocktail lounge.  

 

Anar Ger Camp 

Ulan Bator, Mongolia 

Outside Ulan Bator accommodation is in the traditional circular tents or 'Gers', made from canvas stretched around a fixed wooden framework. Facilities are very basic, each ger containing 4 beds, a wood stove, table and chairs, but little else - the communal shower block is separate and there is a central dining tent. Hot water is not always available. Bales are pleased to advise you that we have secured accommodation based on 2 passengers only in each ger instead of 4. Naturally this has resulted in higher costs but we feel most of our passengers would prefer this arrangement. 

 

Anchor Inn 

Twillingate, Alaska (USA) 

The Anchor Inn, Twillingate is a small motel with 22 rooms, private bath/shower, cable TV and telephone. The restaurant serves a wide variety of seafood and traditional Newfoundland dishes.  

 

Aranwa Hotel and Spa 

Cusco, Peru 

The Aranwa Hotel & Spa (formerly the Acqua Hotel & Spa) is located near Huayllabamba in the Sacred Valley of the Incas outside Cusco. The hotel has 115 rooms and suites spread out in extensive grounds (golf carts are available for moving within the grounds). All of the rooms are equipped with satellite television, mini-bar and WI-FI access, and 24 hour room service is available. Besides the Aranwa Spa, which offers an extensive range of treatments, the hotel has a salon, boutique gallery and its own chapel on an island in the lake within the grounds. There are 2 restaurants, as well as a lounge bar and wine cellar.

Arenal Paraiso Hotel has 74 rooms, all located in semi-detached wooden bungalows, each with a volcano view (if clear day), surrounded by pasturelands. All guestrooms have showers, hot water, air-conditioning and porch area. The hotel has a pleasant swimming pool, its own hot sulphur baths, and spa with lots of treatments available.  

 

Arusha Coffee Lodge  

Arusha, Tanzania 

The Arusha Coffee Lodge is a small luxury hotel located on a working coffee plantation on the western side of town by the airstrip, making it very convenient for relaxing pre or post safari. The lodge is made up of 23 luxury rooms including a honeymoon suite in a converted stable block and several chalets. Balconies are also provided giving spectacular views of Mount Meru and the coffee plantation. All rooms have en suite bathroom and a private veranda and are equipped with all modern amenities, including a coffee percolator! Cuisine at Arusha Coffee Lodge is of a high standard and dining is in the shade of large umbrellas set amongst the lawn and trees. A large wooden deck leads to a lovely clean swimming pool and sun-bathing area, dotted with tables and sunshades. A relaxation spa is also provided.

The Ashok Country Resort is set in pleasant gardens and is conveniently located for Delhi airport. All 82 rooms are well appointed with private facilities, cable television, mini bar, tea & coffee making facilities plus individually controlled air conditioning. Hotel facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, restaurant and room service on request. 

 

Asia Star Hotel 

Changshan Mountains, China 

Located between Changshan Mountain and Erhai Lake is the Asia Star Hotel. The old city of Dali is just ten-minute walk away and the hotels 300 rooms offer views of the mountain or lake. The hotel has a restaurant offering both local and international cuisine and a fitness centre with sauna.

Accommodation is in chalet-style rooms with private facilities set in well-kept gardens. There is a restaurant with picture windows facing the river. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool.
